Тот факт, что любой журналист, стремящийся к правдивому повествованию, в своей работе зачастую сталкивается с ложыо и дезинформацией, а также то, что данная книга в значительной степени опирается на интервью с моджахедами и сотрудниками спецслужб, может вызвать у читателя вполне закономерный вопрос: а стоит ли верить написанному? Усложняет все то, что опубликованные исследования об «Аль-Каиде» и ее членах часто были весьма поверхностными и вводили читателя в заблуждение. Арабская пресса — важнейший источник жизнеописания Завахири и бен Ладена — контролируется автократическими правительствами региона. Не следует слишком полагаться на подтвержденные присягой показания свидетелей, многие из которых, как оказалось, были жуликами, лжецами и двойными агентами. Как же тогда автор отыскивает достоверные источники информации?
